ALWAGHT- Speaking at the UN General Assembly, Iran’s envoy accused the US and Israel of deliberately striking protected nuclear sites, describing the attacks as serious breaches of international law and a danger to global security.
At the UN General Assembly on September 4, Amir Saeed Iravani highlighted that Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities have been deliberately targeted by the US and Israel, actions he described as blatant violations of international law and the UN Charter. He stressed that attacks on safeguarded nuclear sites pose grave risks to international peace and undermine multilateral arms control and non-proliferation frameworks.
Iravani emphasized the broader dangers these attacks pose, including threats to International Monitoring System (IMS) stations and the global verification regime under the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT). He argued that undermining these safeguards jeopardizes the safety of personnel and infrastructure and hinders the advancement of international nuclear agreements.
He called on the international community to condemn such actions, hold violators accountable, and strengthen legal protections for peaceful nuclear facilities. Iravani linked the protection of nuclear energy, adherence to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), and the goal of nuclear disarmament as interconnected, warning that ignoring these attacks risks repeating the catastrophic consequences of past nuclear tests and betraying the memory of their victims.
