Alwaght-Eight Libyan guards of al-Ghani oil field were beheaded in
last week’s attack by Islamic State militants, during which the jihadists
abducted nine foreigners, Libya’s military spokesperson said on Monday, as
Press TV recorded.
The workers from Austrian company
VAOS Oil Services – nationals of the Czech Republic, Bangladesh, Austria, and
Ghana – were abducted by Islamic State militants on Friday near the town of
Zalla, located some 750 kilometers southeast of the capital, Tripoli.
Spokesperson Ahmed al-Mesmari said
yet another employee died of a heart attack while watching the guards’
beheadings. The Islamic State's attacks
in recent weeks forced Libya to declare 11 fields, including al-Ghani,
non-operational. Al-Mesmari warned that
Islamic State militants' long-term goal is to take over Libya's petroleum
industry.
