Alwaght- The members of the Swiss Parliament ratified a bill to forbid face veil of Muslim women on Tuesday.
The move comes after France and some other EU members banned the cover earlier this year.
The Right Wing politician, Walter Wobmann led the campaign in yet another bill to limit the Muslim freedom in the north European country. He was the politician behind the successful campaign to ban mosque minarets in 2009.
The bill has to be approved in the upper house and the Swiss government before it becomes an enforceable law.
But it joins a list of measures championed by populist and right-wing movements that have polarized the Alpine nation, and drawn some criticism from abroad, including most recently a referendum ordering curbs on immigration from the EU.
It may have a tougher time passing the upper house, where parties that opposed the ban, including the Social Democrats, have a stronger presence.
About 5 percent of Swiss residents are Muslim and few wear the face-covering clothing. Switzerland's population of eight million includes an estimated 350,000 Muslims.
