Alwaght- Secretary of the European Department for Security and Information (DESI) Haitham Abu Said asserted that Riyadh provided the terrorist group al-Nusra Front, fighting the Syrian government, with chemical ammunitions through Jordan.
Abu Said elaborated on the provision process during which Riyadh supplied chemicals that caused suffocation and respiratory problems.
The terrorists of al-Nusra Front had used the chemicals against the civilians in April 2016 in Sheikh Maqsood district in Syria’s Aleppo, according to the secretary of DESI.
“This is not the first time that Al-Nusra Front uses poisonous gas against the Syrian civilians, and similar uses of chemicals have been recorded by the official UN institutions, and so the UN is aware of the incidents ,” continued Abu Said.
Al-Nusra Front, an affiliate of Al-Qaeda, is one among an array of foreign-backed terrorist groups that have been fighting the central Syrian government under President Bashar al-Assad since 2011.
Similar attacks including poisonous material were reported to have been carried out by other terror groups inside Syria.
“Daesh (Arabic acronym for ISIS) has carried out more than 160 attacks involving “poisonous or asphyxiating agents, such as sarin, chlorine, and mustard gas since 2011,” reported Iran’s Press TV, quoting the Syrian-American Medical Society.
Quoting the Russian defense ministry, meanwhile, Press TV added that “several trucks, carrying improvised chemical weapons, have been transported to Aleppo from neighboring Idlib.”
Reacting to the reports, Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has condemned the “Inhuman act” of the terrorists, adding that these issues proved that Damascus was innocent while the Western countries reiterated that the Syrian government was to blame for the chemical attacks in the country.
A couple of days ago, the Bosnia-based Center for Investigative Reporting noted that Saudi Arabia organized monthly flights from Jeddah to Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, and smuggled 60 to 90 tons of ammunitions and arms bought from Bulgaria into Syria through Jordan.
Balkan Insight website has reported that it tracked the flight courses of the Saudi planes from Jeddah Airport to Sofia and then from Sofia to Tabuk in northern Saudi Arabia. The website noted that the final destination was Syria after they were unloaded in Jordan.
The report continued that after 20 years this was the first time that the Saudi planes made regular landings in Sofia Airport. After almost two decades the Bulgarian arms sales saw €500 million in profits, according to the same report.
According to the investigation conducted by Balkan Insight, a Saudi Boeing 747 cargo plane made regular flights from Jeddah to Sofia.
“It carries 90 tons of military equipment every month,” continued Balkan Insight.
The loaded plane flew from Sofia to Saudi Arabia’s Tabuk in north, close to Saudi-Jordanian borders.
The purchased-by-Riyadh Bulgarian arms are sent to Jordan territory for final delivery in Syria to the Saudi-backed opposition as well as anti-government terrorist groups.
At least 1,491 people have been killed in the chemical attacks in a set of Syrian regions including Aleppo in north, where Syria shared borders with Turkey, a major backer of armed groups in Syria, and also in Ghouta in outskirts of the capital Damascus.
The Syrian government repeatedly denied use of chemicals in the battle, arguing that the terrorists carried out chemical attacks to provide grounds for pressure on Damascus to the Western powers.
