ALWAGHT- With Israel’s persistent fuel blockade, Gaza’s remaining medical and civil services are on the brink of failure, deepening what health authorities describe as an unparalleled humanitarian crisis.
Gaza’s hospitals are facing a dire crisis as severe fuel shortages force several facilities to shut down and others to cut electricity and medical supplies. The Health Ministry warns that patients are dying due to these critical shortages amid mounting casualties from ongoing Israeli bombardments. Civil defense efforts have also been crippled, with most rescue vehicles out of operation, forcing responders to use private cars to reach those trapped under rubble.
The fuel blockade has severely impacted Gaza’s water supply, reducing well water usage by 70% and halting fuel deliveries to water infrastructure since March. Temporary diesel supplies from the UN have only provided limited relief, with officials warning that fuel will run out within a week. This has led to near-collapse of water and sanitation systems, causing uncollected garbage to pile up and raising fears of widespread disease outbreaks.
Dr. Marwan Al-Hams, director of Gaza’s field hospitals, calls for an immediate end to the war and urgent delivery of fuel, medical supplies, and water to prevent total systemic collapse. Over 2.2 million people in Gaza face a worsening humanitarian catastrophe, with at least 57,762 Palestinians killed so far in what rights groups describe as an ongoing genocide.
