Israeli Airstrike on Gaza City Claims Life of Palestinian Lawmaker

ALWAGHT- A senior Hamas figure and Palestinian lawmaker was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Gaza City.

Faraj al-Ghoul, a prominent Palestinian lawmaker and senior Hamas leader, was killed early Tuesday in an Israeli airstrike that targeted his home in Gaza City, according to al-Shifa Hospital sources. Born in 1957, al-Ghoul was a former head of the Palestinian Legislative Council’s Legal Committee and held key positions such as secretary of the Palestinian Lawyers Union and director of the House of Right and Law. His legal and political career was marked by multiple detentions by Israeli authorities in the 1980s and 1990s.

Al-Ghoul was known for his outspoken criticism of US foreign policy in West Asia, condemning Washington’s unwavering support for Israel and its disregard for Palestinian suffering. He often spoke publicly about the lack of legal justification for American interventionism and denounced its complicity in Israeli aggression, which he described as brutal and unlawful.

His killing comes amid intensified Israeli bombardments across Gaza, which have increasingly targeted political and civil figures from various Palestinian factions. Palestinian sources view the strike as part of a broader effort to dismantle their leadership. Since October 2023, the Israeli offensive has claimed nearly 58,400 Palestinian lives—mostly women and children—with Saturday alone witnessing at least 150 fatalities in one of the deadliest attacks to date.
