Alwaght- Demonstrations have been held outside a British immigration center over the recent assault of a man with mental issues at the site, Press TV reports .
Protesters gathered outside the Campsfield House Immigration Removal Center in the village of Kidlington near Oxford on Wednesday, calling on the British Home Office to close down the center over mistreatment of immigrants .
“They don’t believe people, people shouldn’t have to prove to the Home Office that they need to flee or want to come here. They should just be able to come here, it’s up to them. People don’t make that decision lightly. But, the Home Office has targets for deporting people and wants to find any reason, however ridiculous,” a protester told the Press TV correspondent in Oxford .
One of the detainees said his mentally disturbed friend had been beaten very badly by camp guards and was currently in critical condition .
“The officer pushed him, and then he pushed him back as well, and the manager said to four other officers here to beat him up. Five other detainees saw it. They put him down on the floor and they beat him up really badly,” another detainee said .
Removal centers are used for detaining asylum seekers awaiting decisions and also people with failed asylum claims awaiting deportation .
