Iravani: Iran’s Policy on Afghan Refugees Remains Unchanged

ALWAGHT- Iran's UN representative stated that "despite the challenges in Afghanistan, a stable future can be achieved with ongoing international support and shared responsibility," and emphasized that "the Islamic Republic of Iran's policy toward Afghan refugees and migrants remains unchanged, grounded in humanitarian principles."

Iran’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Amir Saeid Iravani, highlighted Iran’s long-standing policy of sheltering Afghan refugees, stating that the US withdrawal in 2021 exacerbated the burden on Iran. He reaffirmed that Iran’s approach remains rooted in humanitarian principles, with no restrictions for legal Afghan migrants, while also noting the need for international support for neighboring countries like Iran and Pakistan in managing the refugee situation.

Iravani addressed several key issues facing Afghanistan, including the worsening humanitarian crisis, the need for increased funding for aid, and the ongoing threats from terrorist groups like ISIL-K. He called for the release of Afghanistan's frozen assets to support economic recovery and urged the de facto Afghan authorities to address the dire situation for women and girls, particularly the ban on their education and participation in healthcare.

Iran remains committed to Afghanistan's stability, with ongoing engagement through bilateral and regional efforts. Iravani emphasized that a stable future for Afghanistan is achievable with sustained international support and shared responsibility, urging concrete actions to rebuild trust, foster security, and promote human rights.
