ALWAGHT- The foreign ministers of Iran and China expressed concerns over instability and insecurity in Syria, emphasizing the need for a peaceful transition of power and the establishment of an inclusive Syrian government.
During his first official visit outside the region as Iran's foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing.
The two senior diplomats discussed Iran-China relations and the latest regional and global developments, focusing particularly on the political upheavals in West Asia. Both expressed concern over the turmoil and insecurity in Syria, emphasizing the importance of preserving Syria’s national unity and territorial integrity. They called for a calm and secure transition of power, resulting in a government that meets the aspirations of all Syrians.
Araghchi and Wang Yi stressed that the Middle East belongs to its people and that external actors must be prevented from interfering in the region to pursue their geopolitical goals. They also reviewed cooperation between Iran and China in various fields, including trade, transportation, energy, and investment, while exploring ways to strengthen ties under their comprehensive cooperation agreement.
In a post on his X account, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei highlighted the "fruitful and comprehensive" talks between Araghchi and Wang Yi on bilateral, regional, and international matters. He affirmed that as strategic partners, Iran and China are committed to enhancing consultations to deepen ties, benefit their peoples, and promote the rule of law, peace, and security at the international level.
