ALWAGHT- The IRGC Ground Forces are conducting a major anti-terrorism drill, Sahand-2025, in East Azerbaijan Province, northwest Iran, with participation from Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states.
Colonel Shahram Asgari, deputy head of the IRGC Ground Forces’ Public Relations Department, announced on Monday that the Sahand-2025 exercise has been organized following directives from the General Staff of the Armed Forces, in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Executive Committee of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (SCO-RATS).
He stressed the strategic significance of the exercise in promoting regional security collaboration.
Colonel Asgari also highlighted Iran’s long-standing role in combating terrorism, noting that the country has been a key actor in the fight against extremist groups. He added that over the past decades, more than 17,000 Iranian citizens, including women and children, have been victims of terrorist attacks.
The Sahand-2025 exercise began on December 1 and will continue for five days at the military operations area in Shabestar County. The drill is expected to enhance international cooperation against terrorism and strengthen the capabilities of participating nations in addressing regional security challenges.
