ALWAGHT- The head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran said political and psychological pressure over inspections of damaged nuclear facilities will be ineffective, stressing the need for clear procedures to govern such situations.
Mohammad Eslami said there are no established procedures for inspecting nuclear facilities damaged by military attacks, stressing that existing safeguards only address natural accidents. Until clear rules are defined, he said demands for renewed inspections are unacceptable.
He described pressure to re-inspect bombed sites as political and psychological, rejecting what he called attempts to legitimize or complete hostile actions. Eslami said military attacks on safeguarded nuclear facilities must either be explicitly condemned or formally addressed by the IAEA.
Eslami emphasized Iran’s extensive cooperation with the IAEA, saying no violations or diversion from peaceful activities have ever been reported. He characterized current accusations and UN Security Council discussions as legally unfounded and politically motivated.
Rejecting calls to revive UN sanctions, Eslami said such efforts lack legal standing and have been opposed by China and Russia. He also announced a new multimedia initiative aimed at countering misinformation about Iran’s nuclear program.
