Anti-Iran Terrorists Will Be Disarmed, Transferred to UN Camps: Iraqi FM

Alwaght- Iraq is committed to a security pact with Iran to disarm anti-Iran terrorist groups based in the Kurdistan regime, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein said on Wednesday.

The top Iraqi diplomat made the remarks at a joint press conference with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian in Tehran.

Hussein said the terrorist groups will be transferred to camps supervised by the United Nations.

He made clear that the Iraqi constitution does not allow any group to use Iraqi territory to attack other countries, saying the security agreement between the two neighboring countries is also based on the Arab country’s constitution.

He also said the Baghdad government and the Kurdistan region are cooperating with each other in this regard and both stress the necessity of implementing the security agreement.

Amir-Abdollahian, for his part, said the Islamic Republic of Iran is serious when it comes to providing the country’s national security.

Good information was exchanged regarding the removal of the terrorist groups from areas close to Iran’s borders, he said.

“Efforts are underway to disarm them and fully implement the clauses of the security agreement between the two countries,” he added.

Hussein arrived in the Iranian capital on Wednesday morning at the head of a delegation.

During a meeting earlier in the day, the two foreign ministers discussed bilateral issues as well as ways to expand cooperation in various fields. They also exchanged views on regional developments and the need to implement the security agreement between the two sides.

The visit comes two days after Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kan’ani said the ultimatum given to Iraq to disarm anti-Iran separatist groups based in the Kurdistan regime will not be extended.

“Iran’s stance is completely clear. According to the agreement reached with the Iraqi government, the final deadline for the disarmament of the terrorist and separatist forces in Iraq’s Kurdistan region ends on September 19 and that deadline will not be extended in any way,” Kan’ani said in a weekly press briefing in Tehran on Monday.

He noted that the Iraqi government has taken measures in this regard and has stressed that it will honor its commitments.

Also on Monday, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian warned that the presence of terrorists in the Iraqi Kurdistan region runs counter to the friendly ties between the two nations and contravenes the Constitution of Iraq.
