Alwaght- At least 30 people have been killed after the terrorists attacked the island of Koulfoua on the Chadian side of Lake Chad on Saturday.
Security officials said the attacks on Saturday were carried out on the island of Koulfoua on the Chadian side of Lake Chad on a busy market day.
Earlier this year, thousands of people fleeing Boko Haram terrorists sought refuge on the island although it was not immediately clear if they were still based there.
Officials said that at least 27 people were killed and 80 injured in the triple suicide bombing blast, carried out by four female attackers.
Two of the blasts rang out from the centre of the market and a third in the street as people fled, security sources said.
No one has yet claimed responsibility for the blasts but officials suspect the attacks were carried out by members of the Boko Haram Takfiri terrorist group from neighboring Nigeria.
General Banyaman Cossingar, Chad gendarmerie director general, confirmed the attack, saying Boko Haram is suspected
Chad's government instituted a state of emergency in the Lake Chad region last month, saying the area had become a gathering point for Boko Haram terrorists.
Earlier this year, thousands of people fleeing Boko Haram sought refuge on the island although it was not immediately clear if they were still based there.
Boko Haram Takfiri terrorist group, which has led a six-year armed campaign in Nigeria, has stepped up attacks this year in Chad, Niger and Cameroon after those countries agreed to fight the armed group.
At least 17,000 people have been killed and more than 2.5 million made homeless since ISIS-affiliated Boko Haram began its bloody campaign in northeast Nigeria.
