Alwaght- Authorities in Kuwait on Thursday arrested several men suspected of belonging to an ISIS terror cell.
Kuwait State TV, quoting a Kuwaiti Interior Ministry statement, said the cell was involved in recruiting for ISIS terrorist group, as well as providing logistics and funding for the terror group.
Kuwait said the cell is composed of two Kuwaitis, three Syrians and one Egyptian.
In its statement, Kuwait's Interior Ministry said one of those arrested, Lebanese-born Syrian Osama Mohammed Saeed Khaiyat, used a website under his supervision to help fund and support ISIS.
Khaiyat allegedly admitted under interrogation that he made a deal in Ukraine to buy ammunition and rockets for the terror group, shipping via Turkey to Syria.
Kuwait said the suspect also confessed to printing badges and stamps featuring ISIS signatures and signs, as well as transferring money to bank accounts in both Syria and Turkey.
Kuwait's Interior Ministry also alleges the suspected cell collaborated with four people outside Kuwait, identified as two Syrians and two Australian-Lebanese. It's not clear whether those four have been arrested or not. officials did not elaborate on the alleged collaboration.
The development comes as the Persian Gulf Arab country is ramping up security operations in the face of the terrorists group's activities in the Middle East.
Late July also Kuwaiti authorities said the country's security forces dismantled a terrorist network affiliated to the ISIS terrorist group. Early November a Kuwaiti court sentenced five people to 10 years in prison each for financing ISIS terrorist group. The men were charged with raising about 400,000 Kuwaiti dinars ($1.3 million) and transferring the funds to ISIS terrorists, which has seized control of large parts of Syria and Iraq and carried out attacks throughout the West Asia region and North Africa.
The Persian Gulf state launched a security crackdown on extremist elements after a June 26 attack claimed by ISIS, when a Saudi suicide bomber blew himself up inside Imam Sadeq AS Mosque mostly frequented by Shiite Muslims, killing 26 people and injuring over 200 others.
