Iran Foreign Minister Visits Syria

Alwaght- Iranina foreign minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian visited Syria on Saturday as the third leg of his regional tour after visiting Russia and Lebanon.

Amir-Abdollahian was welcomed by his Syrian counterpart, Faisal Mekdad, at Damascus International Airport on Saturday.

"Our ties with Syria are strategic and we are trying to expand our cooperation with the country in all fields. Syria is on the path of development and progress, and on this path, Iran will strongly stand by Damascus, as it did during the war on terrorists," Amir-Abdollahian told reporters.

The top Iranian diplomat also met and exchanged views with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus.

The visit was Abdollahian's second visit to Syria since assuming the post of Iran’s foreign minister. On August 29, he met with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus.
