Alwaght- At least 90 Afghan forces and 16 civilians have been killed in Ghazni as Taliban terrorist group's attack on the strategic city has entered forth day, 1TV reported.
Local television station cited on Sunday a hospital official as saying that some 133 people were injured, including 90 civilians and 43 troops, and casualties were also reported among Taliban fighters.
Clashes between the Taliban and government forces have gripped Ghazni since Friday, when the militants attacked the city.
Politicians from Ghazni who managed to talk to some residents said on Sunday that the Taliban were in control of much of the city after launching an initial attack in the early hours of Friday.
The comments contradict claims by the Afghan defense ministry that reinforcements had arrived and were battling Taliban fighters.
Mohammad Sharif Yaftali, Afghan army chief of staff, said on Sunday the city was not under threat of collapse and heavy fighting was under way to push back the Taliban from city limits.
News of what exactly is happening in Ghazni, a provincial capital on the key road between Kabul and Kandahar, is difficult to get after the militants damaged a telecommunications tower.
A reporter for news agency AFP in Ghazni said the Taliban were not hiding at all, but roaming across the city, where they are in control of several police checkpoints and have been setting fire to government offices.
There are also reports the road outside the city has been mined, making it difficult for residents to escape.
