Alwaght- Saudi Arabia's warplanes have dropped bombs on a wedding procession in Yemen, killing at least 11 women, witnesses have said.

The deadly attack took place at around 11pm local time (20:00 GMT) late on Saturday in the Harib al-Qaramish district of the Marib governorate, east of the capital, Sanaa, where the wedding had taken place.

According to Yemeni rural traditions, a bride and her female friends and relatives march to the wedding ceremony where the groom awaits.

The grieving father of two women killed in the raid told Yemeni Almasirah TV channel that it was a “heinous crime”.

Yemen’s official Saba news agency cited a security source as saying that the women's vehicle was struck by three Saudi-led coalition air raids.

In a post on Twitter, Mohammad Abdel Salam, spokesperson for Ansarullah movement, called the attack a "massacre".

In previous tweets, Abdel Salam also accused the Saudi-led coalition of carrying out "three bloody massacres in [the towns of] Taiz, Saada and Hodeidah" over the weekend. He added that more than 70 people were killed in those attacks.

The Saudi-led military coalition has been continuously pounding Yemen since March 2015 in an attempt to crush the popular Ansarullah movement and reinstate the former fugitive president, Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, a staunch ally of Saudi regime. Over 13,000 Yemenis, mostly civilians, including women and children, have been killed in the Saudi-led aggression.

The situation in Yemen is going from bad to worse with senior UN officials warning that the country is facing the world's largest famine in decades. The World Food Program says of a population of 26 million, some 17 million Yemenis do not know where their next meal is coming from and seven million are totally dependent on food aid
