Does Ansarullah Fight Back?

Friday 22 May 2015
Does Ansarullah Fight Back?
Alwaght- why Ansarullah revolutionary movement does not answer back Saudi brutal attacks in an adequate and preventive manner? Is not this making the invader more aggressive in attacking innocent people of Yemen? Does this lack of interaction imply that Ansarullah has a serious problem in arms? These are the questions coming into minds of the people in the region. Meanwhile, the people who witness the Saudi regime committing crimes against humanity, seriously expect that Ansarullah take the initiative in fighting back. In response to these questions and other similar questions, one should note the following points:
1 – Even if Ansarullah responses to the Saudi regime at the highest level, it is a reaction and playing in enemy’s court. Therefore, guerrilla groups like Ansarullah would never adjust their operational level with offensive operations of the enemy, but they set up a new strategic plan. For example, during the 33-day war with Israel in southern Lebanon, the ruthless Israeli regime launched heavy bombardment and reduced the southern province of Sour to rubbles. However, Hezbollah was able to make heavy missile attack on both Tel Aviv and Haifa, but Hezbollah responded limitedly to devastating attacks. Hezbollah fired at times mainly in a symbolic manner. The shots did not intend massive killing of enemy soldiers or civilians, rather Hezbollah intended to damage the prestige of the enemy. Hezbollah fired several rockets exactly to Haifa Railways' control Centre, and destroyed the military aircraft hangars at the Safed airbase, or sometimes fired limited number of missiles to Tel Aviv to briefly demonstrate the Zionist regime, Hezbollah’s ability in targeting sensitive and remote areas. Guerrilla movement has always been based on questioning the legitimacy of the other side, and disturbing the emotional security of the enemy in a way that at any time anticipates incalculable guerrilla offensives. Ansarullah movement, during the past 48 days after the beginning of the war, despite the limited response, has undermined the legitimacy and emotional security of Saudi regime.
2 - In guerrilla and asymmetric warfare, resistance force moves based on the "stage management". Resistance force, unlike the classic army, does not make attempts to expand its battlefield, but tries to keep it limited and while benefitting fast transformation, strikes major blows to the enemy. Having explored the 33-day war in Lebanon and Gaza wars, one can find this strategy in those wars and also recognize the effectiveness of such a strategy. Nevertheless, there are many examples in which such groups expanded the asymmetric battlefield and suffered a defeat. In Yemen war, Ansarullah defined a limited area in the North West of Sadah, the province of Jizan as its area of operation. In this area, the number of military casualties to the enemy was higher than that of Yemeni members of Ansarullah organization.
3 – In this war, the Ansarullah had to choose between focus on clearing the Yemen from Saudi forces or fighting back the aggressive enemy, as the distribution of Ansarullah power in this scene would cost too much, and would lead to expansion of battlefield, intensity of clashes and prolonged fighting. At this stage, Ansarullah intelligently has only focused on inlands and only sporadically entered into clashes with Saudi Army. As a result, the foreign war has changed from an intense two-way conflict to a low intensity unilateral one. In this way, Saudi Arabia failed to gain legitimacy for its actions. Although the regime helped to issue the resolution no. 2216 against Yemen, in Saudi Arabia’s only political achievement, is not granted permission to attack on Yemen, for this reason Saudi regime twice was forced to announce a new operational approach. At this period, the conflicts were brutal but limited. The Saudi regime carried out about 5,000 sorties. Besides, Ansarullah revolutionary movement at this time cleaned up much of the seven southern provinces from Saudi affiliates, and consequently disrupted the Saudi’s strategy to retain its past domination over Yemen. However, if Ansarullah had fired 1000 rockets into cities in Saudi Arabia, which requires careful legalization and might be faced by religious barriers, but Saudi affiliates in Yemen would have retained their position which was less costly for Saudi Arabia.
4 - Under the pretext of defending the holy cities of Mecca and Medina, and the Two Holy Mosques, Saudi Arabia made an effort to establish an anti-Iranian and anti-Yemeni front with the help of some Arab and Islamic countries. Ansarullah’s missile attacks on Saudi cities, especially in the first weeks, would have helped the Saudi rulers to support this false claim. Ansarullah’s restraint and limiting the scale of its response, broke down the aggressor’s basis for movement.
In fact, the Holocaust that the Saudi regime imagined would help it obtain legitimacy for its aggression and build a coherent anti-Iranian and anti-Yemeni front actually was never created and the philosophy of Saudis’ movement was nullified. Comment made by Saudi officials in Riyadh meeting that was held with the participation of the exiled Yemenis, showed that the Saudi regime insisted that the aggression against Yemen was carried out on Mansour Hadi’s request, while in the early days of war, the Saudi regime began its invasion claiming that the security of Holy Mosques, Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries is at risk. But now, Saudi Arabia keeps distance from such slogans, and tries to attribute it to a Yemeni request. Of course this is a big lie, because if Mansour Hadi had made such a request for attack, in the early days of the war it should have been declared in the media and legal communities. However, if Mansour Hadi has made such a request, should they invade a country on an illegal and fugitive president’s request? If Mansour Hadi was the real president who ruled the whole Yemen, and had asked the Saudi government to launch bombardments against houses, mosques, markets, schools, etc., Saudi government was not authorized to invade its neighboring country; nevertheless, there has been no such a request, nor Mansour Hadi was the real president, nor is such a legitimacy essentially acceptable.
The initial movement of Ansarullah and its focus on domestic defense prevented the formation of a Saudi-led alliance with countries such as Pakistan, Turkey, and Egypt. In addition, Ansarullah’s measures in Jizan region were planned in a way that some countries in the first week after the war, chose not to participate in counter-Ansarullah war, they said they would defend Saudi Arabia in case the country is invaded. Nevertheless, despite sustained attacks of pro-Ansarullah Yemeni tribes on Jizan region, countries such as Pakistan again left Saudi Arabia alone.
5. However, “It's never too late to mend.” If Saudi Arabia currently attacks against Yemen, as its last resort; consequently, today it has nothing to say. However, Ansarullah has carried out the minimum attacks against Saudi Arabia, as its first resort; therefore, today it has a lot to say. Ansarullah still is busy cleaning up Yemen inlands, especially Mukalla, the center of "Hadramaut" province which is occupied by Ansar al Sharia, al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula. Ansarullah can choose between clean-up operations in Hadramaut and carrying out attacks against parts of Saudi Arabia. Ansarullah is already confident that the Saud Arabia is left alone in this military confrontation. Ansarullah is able to retaliate both on sea and land, and of course is able enough to set its scope and severity.
