ALWAGHT- US President Donald Trump claims that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were captured by US forces following a large-scale military strike on the country.
US President Donald Trump claimed on Truth Social that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, had been captured and flown out of Venezuela following a large-scale US military strike. The Venezuelan government has not confirmed Maduro’s whereabouts after the reported attacks.
Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Lopez denied reports of Maduro’s death, stating in a video that he is safe in a bunker. He described the US strikes on Caracas as a criminal act of military aggression and called on the Venezuelan people and armed forces to defend the nation.
Explosions and unmanned aircraft were reported across Caracas early Saturday morning, with coordinated US strikes targeting both civilian and military sites. The Venezuelan government characterized the attacks as an attempt by Washington to seize the country’s oil and mineral resources.
In response, Venezuela declared a nationwide state of emergency, fully activated its national defense plans, and deployed comprehensive defense commands. The government emphasized its right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter and urged regional and international actors to oppose what it called imperialist aggression.
