Ayatollah Khamenei: Iran–US Conflict Is “inevitable”

ALWAGHT- Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, Leader of the Islamic Revolution, said that tensions between Tehran and Washington are “inherent,” driven by a deep conflict of interests. He cautioned that any cooperation with the US would require it to halt support for Israel, remove its military presence from the region, and stop meddling in Iran’s internal affairs.

Ayatollah Khamenei, speaking in Tehran on the eve of November 4 — Iran’s “Student Day” and the anniversary of the 1979 US Embassy takeover — called the event a defining moment for Iran’s identity. Addressing students and families of war martyrs, he praised the embassy seizure as a symbol of pride and US exposure.

He said the conflict between Iran and the United States is “intrinsic,” rooted in a fundamental clash of interests rather than rhetoric or slogans. Ayatollah Khamenei stressed that cooperation with Washington would only be considered if the US ends support for Israel, withdraws military bases from the region, and stops interfering in Iran’s internal affairs.

Tracing tensions back to the 1953 coup against Prime Minister Mohammad Mossadegh, he accused the US and Britain of overthrowing a national government while pretending to be allies. He also said documents uncovered during the 1979 embassy seizure revealed deeper American conspiracies against the Islamic Revolution.

Ayatollah Khamenei urged students to expand their political understanding, advance scientific progress, and strengthen Iran’s defensive capabilities. The goal, he said, is to ensure Iran remains a strong nation that cannot be dominated by foreign powers.
