ALWAGHT- Iran and Azerbaijan have reiterated their commitment to enhancing political, economic, and cultural cooperation, while addressing remaining obstacles to closer ties.
During a meeting in Tehran, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held extensive talks with Khalaf Khalafov, special assistant to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, covering bilateral cooperation, regional stability in the South Caucasus, and prospects for strategic collaboration. Araghchi emphasized Iran’s commitment to advancing relations with Azerbaijan based on mutual respect, shared interests, and longstanding cultural and geographic ties.
Araghchi stressed the importance of peace and stability in the South Caucasus, reaffirming Iran’s support for sovereignty, territorial integrity, and diplomacy as the sole means of resolving regional disputes. He welcomed the recent US-mediated agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia but cautioned against foreign intervention, highlighting Tehran’s close monitoring of regional developments to prevent unwanted interference.
In parallel, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi met with Khalafov to discuss broader regional issues, including Caspian Sea cooperation, peace initiatives, and coordination within CICA. He noted that both countries recognize the vast potential to expand bilateral relations across multiple sectors, leveraging deep cultural and religious ties and the commitment of their leadership to achieve shared goals.
