Two Civilians Killed in Southern Lebanon by Israeli Drone Strike

ALWAGHT- Two people were killed in southern Lebanon when an Israeli drone struck a civilian car, highlighting ongoing Israeli ceasefire breaches and increasing global concern over civilian deaths.

An Israeli drone strike in southern Lebanon’s town of Zebdine killed a man and his wife and injured another, marking another violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty and the November 27, 2024, ceasefire agreement. Israeli forces have also carried out airstrikes in other areas, including the Hermel border region, targeting residential zones, vehicles, and agricultural land, despite the truce.

The United Nations Human Rights Office reported that 103 civilians have been killed in Lebanon since the ceasefire took effect, with strikes continuing near populated areas and UN peacekeepers. Over 80,000 people remain displaced, and hundreds of schools, hospitals, and places of worship have been damaged or destroyed. UN Rights Chief Volker Türk warned that these attacks threaten reconstruction efforts and long-term peace.

The Zebdine strike reflects a broader pattern of Israeli escalation, occurring alongside growing US involvement in Lebanon, including $230 million in conditioned aid aimed at disarming Hezbollah. Hezbollah Secretary-General Sheikh Naim Qassem condemned both the Israeli attacks and US interference, urging Lebanon to prioritize sovereignty, reconstruction, and addressing repeated aggression in government sessions.
