ALWAGHT- In response to Israeli military activity near the border, the Lebanese army has deployed forces to the southern town of Meiss al-Jabal.
The Lebanese army has mobilized troops and deployed vehicles in the southern town of Meiss al-Jabal following Israeli forces’ alert positions near the border. The move comes after President Joseph Aoun directed the army to confront any Israeli incursions into southern Lebanon, escalating tensions despite an existing ceasefire.
The directive followed recent Israeli attacks, including airstrikes and a ground incursion in Blida that killed a civilian. On Saturday, Israeli drones struck the villages of Kafr Rumman and Kafr Sir in southern Lebanon, killing four and wounding three, three days after a ground operation in Nabatieh.
Israel’s continued military actions have breached the ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah, drawing condemnation for targeting civilians and fueling instability. Israeli officials claim the strikes are defensive, but the attacks have sparked growing regional concern over escalating violence.
Meanwhile, Israeli leaders have threatened further escalation. Defense Minister Israel Katz accused Lebanon of delaying Hezbollah disarmament, warning of intensified action, while Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to prevent threats from the Lebanon front. Since the ceasefire, Israeli strikes have killed over 300 people and targeted reconstruction efforts allegedly linked to Hezbollah.
