ALWAGHT- Iran’s Foreign Ministry firmly rejected the claims made in the Arab League’s final statement, reaffirming the country’s unquestionable sovereignty over the three Persian Gulf islands.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry on Tuesday reaffirmed the country’s “indisputable sovereignty” over the Persian Gulf islands of Abu Musa, Greater Tunb, and Lesser Tunb, calling them inseparable parts of Iran’s territory. It condemned repeated claims by the UAE and Arab League, stressing that no statement can alter the historical, legal, and geographical facts. The ministry said all measures taken on the islands are part of Iran’s sovereign right to safeguard its national interests and security.
The statement highlighted Iran’s role as the “most effective provider of maritime security” in the Persian Gulf and beyond, noting that Tehran has ensured safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. It underscored Iran’s readiness to take any necessary action, in line with international law, to protect its sovereignty while guaranteeing freedom of navigation in regional and international waters.
Iran recalled that sovereignty over the islands was restored in 1971, after decades of British control, and rejected the UAE’s claims. It also urged Arab League members to focus on resisting Israeli aggression rather than repeating divisive rhetoric. Tehran further dismissed accusations of interference in Yemen, calling them baseless and orchestrated by Israel to distract from its ongoing crimes in Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, and Yemen.
The Foreign Ministry reiterated Iran’s principles of good neighborliness, respect for sovereignty, and non-interference, while calling for stronger regional unity free from outside meddling. It welcomed the Arab League’s condemnation of Israel’s war in Gaza, urging immediate measures, including cutting ties with Tel Aviv, to halt the genocide. The statement cited the killing of more than 64,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and warned of famine and mass displacement as the crisis deepens.
