ALWAGHT- According to a knowledgeable source, Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency are expected to reach an agreement in Cairo.
An informed source said an upcoming meeting in Cairo between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi is expected to be highly significant. While no agreement has been finalized, there is a possibility that Iran and the IAEA could reach a deal. Araghchi arrived in Cairo on Tuesday for talks with senior Egyptian officials and Grossi regarding the future of Iran-IAEA cooperation.
The discussions come after Iran’s Parliament passed a law in June suspending cooperation with the IAEA, following what Tehran described as a biased report by Grossi that allegedly encouraged US and Israeli military actions against Iran’s nuclear sites. Araghchi has emphasized that Iran will not provide any new cooperation with the IAEA until negotiations on a new framework are concluded, reflecting recent developments and tensions.
Araghchi also stressed that Iran will take all necessary steps to prevent the re-imposition of UN sanctions under the snapback mechanism. The talks in Cairo are therefore being closely watched as they may determine the terms and conditions of renewed cooperation between Iran and the IAEA.
