Alwaght- Turkey once again has accused Germany of supporting terrorism in the lasts string of insults traded between two NATO allies.
Turkey’s president Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Germany is "mercilessly supporting terrorism” , while his speech was broadcasting live on television.
The Turkish president has previously, on March 4, accused German officials of "aiding and harboring terror," saying "They need to be put on trial".
Erdogan's accusation came after German authorities canceled planned rallies in support of a referendum in Turkey aimed at expanding Erdogan’s executive powers.
A group of German legislators called on Chancellor Angela Merkel to ban Erdogan from entering the country while Deniz Yücel, a Turkish-German journalist for German daily Die Welt, continues to be held in Turkish police custody since February 14.
The call was followed by the cancellation of a number of pro-Erdogan rallies in Germany, which in turn prompted Turkey to summon the German ambassador in protest.
The Netherlands also followed Germany's suit and blocked Turkish ministers from speaking at a political rally in Rotterdam.
In reaction, Mr Erdogan branded the Dutch government as "Nazi remnants, fascists" after the Amsterdam withdrew permission for his Foreign Minister to land there.
Chancellor Angela Merkel responded that Germany “completely rejects rhetorical and any other comparisons with the National Socialists made by the Turkish president."
"These comparisons are completely misguided,” she said. "They trivialise the suffering".
"Particularly in the Netherlands that endured so much agony through the National Socialists, it's just completely unacceptable".
"That's why the Netherlands can count on my complete support and solidarity on this."
