Alwaght-Iran is set to appoint Marzieh Afkham who served the first foreign ministry spokeswoman as the first female Iranian
envoy to East Asia.
Marzieh
Afkham is set to be the second female ambassador in the history of Iran and the
first since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. The other female ambassador was
Mehrangiz Dolatshahi, who served in Denmark in the 1970s under Shah's rule,
Worldbulltin reported.
It
is not officially announced to which country she will be posted and not yet
clear when she will take up her new position, i24news reported.
Women
in Iran freely vote, work in different positions and study a variety of
subjects. Women currently make up around 60 percent of university students in
Iran (i24news, 2015). The appointment of Mrs. Afkham in a high-rank
positions shows that women play the significant roles in Iran's
society.
