Alwaght-Lebanese forces have dismantled a major ISIS terrorist group cell in the country and arrested a top commander of the extremist Takfiri group.
The top commander of ISIS in Lebanon was arrested by the Lebanese Army in the northeastern town of Arsal near the Syrian border on Friday morning.
Lebanese soldiers mounted an offensive in the Wadi al-Araneb suburbs of the town, located about 124 kilometers northeast of the capital Beirut, pounding a ISIS position in the area and inflicting heavy losses on the extremists’ ranks. The ISIS commander identified as Commander Ahmad Youssef Ammoun – aka Sheikh was arrested alongside with ten of his accomplices. Ammoun was critically wounded during the operation. He was transferred to a nearby hospital aboard a military helicopter.
Meanwhile Lebanese Hezbollah resistance movement praised on Friday the heavy blow the Lebanese army dealt to the ISIL terrorists in Arsal Barrens. In a statement, Hezbollah said the successful operation highlights the basic role of the military in defending the border and eradicating the terrorists in order to protect Lebanon and the people.
Hezbollah added that this heroic operation is a real expression of the Lebanese armed forces commitment to preemptively strike the terrorists, where it is a must, in order to prevent them from preparing for their criminal acts against the Lebanese.
“This reduces the murderers’ threat in preparation to eradicate them and dismantle their structure which endangers Lebanon’s security.”
Stressing that the Lebanese cannot forget at these moments the servicemen kidnapped by ISIL terrorist group, Hezbollah hoped that this operation and similar achievements contribute to releasing them through the power of the right which is the weapon used by the Lebanese army to strike the criminals.
Lebanese president Michel Aoun also praised the military operation, stressing that such offensives “ensure stability and ward off terror plots.”
