Alwaght- ISIS terrorist group implants explosive materials in children toys to continue killing civilians even after it has left Iraq’s northern city of Mosul as the army advances in its liberation operation, the British Guardian daily reports.
The explosives are meant to target young children who will be attracted by the toys, after they return their homes when the ISIS terrorist groups is defeated in the comprehensive operation Iraqi army has launched to liberate the terrorists’ last strong hold in Iraq.
“In the areas where it rules for long enough to seed them with bombs, the [ISIS] group has created a dark, parallel universe, where even the most mundane object can kill. A toy, a playing card and an abandoned watch are all detonators designed to spark the acquisitive curiosity of a returning civilian, who would be maimed or murdered by the explosion” The investigative article by Emma Graham says.
“The teddy bear, garish but cuddly, is propped on top of the explosives it was designed to hide and detonate. An adult would probably have walked by, but to a child the wide eyes and fuzzy orange fur would have been irresistible.” the article reads.
“The expertise of ISIS with explosives and extensive use of suicide bombs and booby traps makes attacking them particularly dangerous, and slows recovery when they are defeated. Because there is no area, civilian or military, that the group will not lace with explosives, many Iraqis fear that returning to their homes and former lives could be deadly, even long after militants have left,” the article says.
The terrorist group is using “the most creative, cruel, and unusual” methods to train members for attacking the most defenseless targets.
“The homemade explosive devices provide a lesson in the depths of ingenuity, intelligence and resources that ISIS devotes to spreading murder and fear even when its fighters can no longer terrorize in person,” she said.
The Iraqi national army and police force have launched an extensive operation to liberate the northern city of Mosul that fell to ISIS in 2014 and is considered the last stronghold of the group in the country.
