Alwaght – Triple explosions killed at least 12 people in the Iraqi city of Tikrit on Saturday.
Three terrorist explosions hit the northern entrance of Tikrit, capital of the Salahuddin Province, a security source told the Press TV channel.
The first explosion occurred when a car bombed blew up at the Aqwas security check post. After the first explosion and when people gathered at the scene, two suicide bombers detonated their explosive belts.
Nine police officers and three members of the Iraqi volunteer fighters known as al-Hashad al-Sha’bi or Popular Mobilization Units died in the explosions.
At least 23 people were also injured in the terrorist attack. A curfew was imposed over the city afterwards.
The attack came as the Iraqi media reported the final stages of launching an operation to liberate Salahuddin’s northern districts from ISIS control. The province was captured by the ISIS in 2014.
