Alwaght- After years of news expressing the fact that the smartphones are devices that due to their high-tech can be used as spying instruments, once again the issue is warming up.
The Israeli military officials said that for security considerations Tel Aviv banned playing Pokémon Go smartphone game in all of its military bases. Earlier the officials of the Western Wall, or Kotel, in the occupied Palestinian territories and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum had banned the game in the vicinity of these places.
According to the Jerusalem Post newspaper, the ban on Pokémon Go by the Israeli authorities comes as fears grow that the military personnel may download similar apps that could uncover sensitive information inadvertently.
Following spread of the news, the military sources of the Israeli regime have said that they detected an app that was similar to the original Pokémon Go, worked like it, and carried the potentials to reveal classified data. During playing the game, which is now sweeping a majority of the world's countries, the smartphone camera as well as the GPS locator should be active, and at the same time the internet connection has to be turned on, something that may disclose very important military information.
The security department of the Israeli military before announcing the decision had demanded the Israeli officers and soldiers to immediately stop playing Pokémon Go at the military bases. The spokesman for the Israeli army has published a statement, saying that the decision was made due to the concerns about revelation of sensitive military data like images and positions of the military bases.
China, too, bans Pokémon Go
China earlier said that it was worried that Pokémon Go may spy on information of the users under the cover of a smartphone game. Furthermore, there have been a slew of speculations on social media in China on the main goals behind unveiling the controversial smartphone game.
One theory on Pokémon Go suggests that should the Pokémons appear in places where there is no much traffic or human movement, the users assume that the place is confidential.
On the other side, if the Pokémons show up in place where there is no movement at all, the place is possibly a site with high-level security.
A number of theorists in Chinese media have urged the Chinese citizens not play the game, arguing that the US and Japan could use it to detect the secret sites in China.
