Alwaght- With the expulsion of Israeli regime troops from South Lebanon on 25 May 2000, Lebanon annually celebrates this day as Liberation Day since 1985.
Liberation Day, also known as South Liberation Day or Liberation and Resistance Day, is a Lebanese holiday and referred to as a milestone in the resistance history of the country.
Tel Aviv Regimes' withdrawal was mostly because of the Hezbollah group, led by Hasan Nasrallah.
The withdrawal of the Israeli forces marked the end of the South Lebanon occupation that began in 1985 but has its roots in the earlier events. Israeli regime first briefly invaded Lebanon in 1978 and then launched a full-scale invasion during Operation Peace for Galilee, also known as the 1982 Lebanon War.
In 1985, Israeli regime withdrew to a security zone on South Lebanon. The zone was controlled by the IDF and the South Lebanon Army (SLA), a Lebanese power which was formed during the Lebanese Civil War.
Hezbollah as the first power dominating south of Lebanon, has always been a thorn in the eye for the Israeli regime. After forcing the Israelis out of south Lebanon, many other clashes occurred that the most outstanding was the 33Day war. The war in which Israeli regime lost both warfare and troops and was defeated in humiliating way, resulting in several resignations in the body of Israeli Regime government.
Hezbollah Secretary-General Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah, whose party is credited with leading the resistance that forcec Israel to withdraw, will give a speech at 5:30 p.m. local time during a celebration in the Bekaa Valley village of Nabi Sheet.
Hezbollah’s Al-Manar TV said the party leader is expected to talk about the capabilities and potential of the resistance against Israel and the continued defense of Lebanon. He will also comment on the situation in Syria as well as internal issues, Al-Manar added.
“May 25 is a legend, a people’s sacrifice, a resistance until (we attain) liberation and victory,” Marada Movement leader Sleiman Frangieh tweeted.
“History will remember Hasan Nasrallah and the resisters in letters of gold, and it will condemn all the rulers and the regimes that are conspiring today against the Resistance,” Tawhid Party chief Wiam Wahhab tweeted.
“On a day like this, the resistance freed Lebanon with the blood of its martyrs, the sweat of its people, and exposed the official Arab regime that had convinced us that Israel was invincible,” he added.
Lebanese Democratic Party leader Talal Arslan congratulated the Lebanese people in a statement.
“This holiday belongs to all of us, and it cannot be limited within sectarian shackles for the sake of narrow-minded political and factional considerations,” he said.
“This holiday belongs to every honorable Lebanese, regardless of his sect, because it represents Lebanon’s pride and victory over the injustice and arrogance of the Israeli occupation that was and still is the enemy of Lebanon and the whole Arab nation,” he added.
Former Minister Faisal Karami also congratulated Lebanon.
“We proudly reflect upon the great victories that have been attained against the Israeli enemy,” he said.
“However, with all the achievements and the sacrifices, the Israeli threat still exists on land, in the sea, and in the air. This danger cannot disappear without a united stance against Lebanon and the Arab world’s enemy.”
