Israel Strikes Southern Lebanon on The Day of Nasrallah’s Funeral, Escalating Tensions

ALWAGHT- Israeli warplanes have launched airstrikes on several towns in Lebanon, violating an ongoing ceasefire just hours before the mass funeral of martyred Hezbollah leader Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut.

Israeli airstrikes targeted multiple areas in southern and eastern Lebanon on Sunday morning, including the outskirts of Qlaila, Ansar, Janata, Barish, Maaroub, Halousiya, Zrarieh, and the Hermel region in the Bekaa Valley. Media reports have not yet confirmed any casualties or the extent of the damage caused by the attacks.

The strikes coincide with the arrival of thousands of participants for the funeral of Hezbollah leaders Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah and Hashem Safieddine in Beirut’s Camille Chamoun Sports City. The event, set to begin at 1:00 PM local time, is expected to see massive participation, with delegations from around 70 countries, including politicians, diplomats, and citizens from Iraq, Yemen, Iran, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Turkey.

Nasrallah was assassinated in an Israeli airstrike on September 27, 2024, following a week-long bombing campaign, while Safieddine was killed on October 3. Hezbollah postponed their funerals due to security concerns, and Safieddine will be laid to rest on Monday in his hometown of Deir Qanoun al-Nahr in southern Lebanon.
