ALWAGHT- Iran's ambassador to the United Nations dismissed the baseless accusations by the US, the UK, and the Israeli regime, denying Tehran's involvement in exacerbating the conflict in Yemen or any other region.
In a letter dated December 30 to UN Secretary-General António Guterres and UN Security Council President Linda Thomas-Greenfield, Iran’s ambassador, Saeed Iravani, strongly refuted allegations made by the US, UK, and Israel during a Security Council meeting. He dismissed the accusations as unfounded, politically motivated, and an attempt to scapegoat Iran for destabilizing actions in the region, which he attributed instead to Israel’s provocations and violations of international law.
Iravani emphasized Iran’s adherence to international law and its denial of any involvement in violations of arms embargoes or conflicts in Yemen. He condemned Israel’s attacks on Yemen’s sovereignty, infrastructure, and civilians, which he described as violations of the UN Charter and international humanitarian law. These actions, backed by the US and UK, were blamed for worsening Yemen’s humanitarian crisis and undermining regional stability.
The letter criticized the US and UK for supporting Israel’s actions while fabricating accusations against Iran, accusing them of emboldening Israel’s impunity and fueling conflicts in the region. Iravani reiterated Iran’s support for a political resolution in Yemen, including a ceasefire and inclusive dialogue, and rejected allegations of interference in the Red Sea as baseless provocations intended to escalate tensions.
Iravani called on the Security Council to address Israel’s actions, which he said threaten regional and international peace, citing issues such as the occupation of Gaza, Syria, and the Golan Heights. He urged the Council to hold Israel and its enablers accountable, warning that failure to act would erode trust in the UN’s ability to maintain peace and security and perpetuate violence and instability in the region.
