ALWAGHT- Iran's president urged France to leverage its influence to pressure the Israeli regime into halting its atrocities in the region.
In a meeting with his French counterpart on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, President Masoud Pezeshkian urged France to take stronger action to halt the Zionist regime's crimes. He emphasized that France has the potential to be “much more effective” in stopping Israeli atrocities.
Pezeshkian highlighted the severe impact of the Zionist regime's actions on the people of Iran and the region, warning that continued aggression could spiral the situation out of control. He also noted Iran's restraint in preventing further escalation, while the Zionist regime has escalated its attacks on Gaza and Lebanon.
Expressing surprise that the US and some Western governments, including France, label these crimes as self-defense, Pezeshkian argued that such atrocities are unjustifiable under any legal standard. He called on Western states to abandon their double standards, pointing out that mere verbal condemnations have only emboldened the Zionist regime.
Pezeshkian reiterated his commitment to constructive engagement with neighboring countries and expressed Tehran’s willingness to cooperate with European nations.
In response, French President Emmanuel Macron expressed concern over the situation, particularly Israel's aggression against Lebanon, and assured that France strongly condemns the strikes. He added that France has made efforts to pressure Israel into halting its aggression.
