Kuwait Warns against Israeli Settlement Expansion in Occupied West Bank

Alwaght- Kuwait warned against Israeli regime's plans to expand illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank, calling on the United Nations to take deterrent measures against the Tel Aviv regime.

The warning comes as Tel Aviv is set to approve plans for the construction of nearly 4,000 new illegal settler units in the occupied West Bank on Thursday.

In a statement on Sunday, Kuwait’s Foreign Ministry condemned the Israeli plans as a “flagrant violation of international law and resolutions of international legitimacy,” invoking the UN Security Council Resolution 2334.

The ministry also warned against Israeli plans to destroy 12 Palestinian villages in the West Bank province of al-Khalil (Hebron) and to evict 4,000 Palestinians from their homes and villages.

According to the ministry, the Israeli actions undermine the global efforts aimed at finding a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Kuwait also called on the UN Security Council to “shoulder its responsibilities” and to compel the Israeli regime to stop its settlement expansion.

The ministry also reiterated Kuwait’s support for the legitimate rights of the “brotherly” Palestinian people.

Most of the international community considers Israeli settlement construction illegal under international law and an obstacle to the so-called two-state solution to the decades-long Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Nearly 700,000 Israelis live in over 230 illegal settlements built since the 1967 occupation of the Palestinian territories of the West Bank and East al-Quds.

The UN Security Council has in several resolutions condemned the Tel Aviv regime’s settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian lands.

Palestinians want the West Bank as part of a future independent Palestinian state, with East al-Quds as its capital.
