Israel Killed 44 Journalists Sheltering in Gaza Tents

Israel Killed 44 Journalists Sheltering in Gaza Tents

ALWAGHT- Israeli forces have killed 44 journalists in displacement tents across Gaza, contributing to a death toll of more than 270 media workers since October 2023.

A new report by the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate states that 44 Palestinian journalists have been killed in displacement tents across Gaza, among more than 270 media workers slain by Israeli forces since October 2023. Many were sheltering near hospitals and UN facilities when they were struck by airstrikes or sniper fire.

The report asserts that these incidents form part of a systematic campaign to dismantle Gaza’s media presence, including the destruction of news offices and the targeted killing of journalists in homes, workplaces, and temporary shelters.

Citing Article 79 of the First Additional Protocol to the Geneva Conventions, the Syndicate says attacks on journalists—and especially on tents located in humanitarian zones—constitute war crimes. Investigators also found no military activity near the targeted sites, rejecting Israeli claims of accidental strikes and describing the attacks as deliberate efforts to silence documentation.

The Syndicate called for an independent international investigation and activation of ICC accountability mechanisms, while urging cooperation with global media organizations to protect displaced journalists. The report highlights incidents such as the August airstrike near al-Shifa Hospital and adds to mounting evidence from CPJ and RSF that Gaza has become the deadliest conflict for journalists in modern history.
