ALWAGHT- Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stressed that closer ties between Tehran and Moscow could contribute to greater regional stability, with both sides pledging to maintain consultations on key regional and global developments.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said closer cooperation with Russia could strengthen regional stability, stressing that disputes should be resolved through diplomacy rather than military action. During talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Tehran on Monday, he blamed US-Israeli actions and economic pressure for insecurity in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, while warning about the security and environmental risks posed by attacks on Caspian Sea vessels.
Araghchi said Tehran and Moscow shared views on easing tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan and countering terrorism. Their discussions also covered Palestine, Lebanon and Yemen, with the Iranian foreign minister calling for an end to Israeli expansionism and violence against Palestinians.
Both countries reaffirmed their opposition to US unilateralism and pledged to strengthen multilateral cooperation through international forums, including BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Araghchi also described bilateral economic ties as promising, noting that the two countries’ 20-year comprehensive strategic partnership treaty had entered its implementation phase.
Lavrov reaffirmed Moscow’s commitment to the strategic partnership, saying Russia had opposed efforts at the United Nations to justify the US-Israeli war against Iran and had provided humanitarian assistance, including food and medicine. He added that Russia remained determined to expand cooperation with Tehran despite regional tensions and external pressure.
