Israeli Airstrike Leaves 15 Dead at A Palestinian Refugee Camp in Southern Lebanon

ALWAGHT- At least 15 people were killed in an Israeli airstrike on Lebanon’s largest Palestinian refugee camp in the country’s south.

A large number of people were hospitalized in Sidon following an Israeli airstrike on the Ain al-Hilweh Palestinian refugee camp on Tuesday. The attack reportedly involved at least three missiles targeting a center inside the camp, resulting in numerous casualties. Hamas rejected Israeli claims that the strike targeted its members, stating that most victims were children under 18 present at a sports field and club.

Hamas officials condemned the attack as part of an ongoing campaign of violence against Palestinians, with Osama Hamdan describing it as a continuation of genocide. The strike provoked outrage among camp residents, leading to protests, while Palestinian factions in Sidon declared a general strike in mourning. They linked the assault to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s threats to expand military operations.

The attack came amid broader Israeli military actions, including violations of a ceasefire agreement with Lebanon’s Hezbollah and ongoing offensives in Gaza, which have killed tens of thousands of Palestinians since October 2023. The strikes highlight continued regional tensions and the lack of effective international deterrence against Israeli aggression.
