Iran and Azerbaijan Conduct Joint Naval Exercise in the Caspian Sea

ALWAGHT- Iranian and Azerbaijani naval forces conducted a joint maritime rescue and relief drill near Boyuk Zira Island off Baku’s coast in the Caspian Sea.

Iran and Azerbaijan recently wrapped up the four-day joint naval exercise AZIREX 2025 in the Caspian Sea near Boyuk Zira Island, off Baku’s coast. The drill involved Iran’s Navy, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy, and Azerbaijani naval units, with Iran deploying the missile-launching vessels Paykan and Separ alongside the IRGC’s Shahid Basir warship.

The exercise aimed to strengthen maritime security in the Caspian, enhance coordination between the two navies, and boost operational capabilities in joint search, rescue, and relief missions. It also focused on safeguarding commercial ships and oil tankers, establishing frameworks for future exercises, and reinforcing military cooperation to support friendly ties between the neighboring countries.

Upon the Iranian vessels’ arrival in Azerbaijan, a formal reception ceremony was held, attended by Azerbaijani Navy commanders and senior officials. This was followed by a joint meeting of naval commanders from both nations to discuss bilateral cooperation and the specifics of the exercise.

The successful conclusion of AZIREX 2025 highlights Iran and Azerbaijan’s commitment to regional stability and maritime security. The drill also emphasized the importance of sustained communication and operational coordination in the strategically significant Caspian Sea.
