Senior Hezbollah Lawmaker: Giving Up Arms Is Suicide

ALWAGHT- A Lebanese parliamentarian from Hezbollah’s political bloc has firmly rejected calls for the resistance movement to disarm, following US pressure on the government to strip the group of its weapons.

Mohammad Raad, leader of Hezbollah’s Loyalty to the Resistance Bloc, strongly condemned calls for the group’s disarmament, calling it “suicide” and a betrayal of Lebanon. Speaking to al-Manar TV, he emphasized that giving up weapons is an existential red line, questioning who would guarantee the country’s sovereignty without them.

Raad criticized the US proposal tied to disarmament, saying it lacked credible guarantees, and questioned Prime Minister Nawaf Salam’s legitimacy in supporting Washington’s demands. He highlighted that Hezbollah’s weapons have been considered legal for over three decades and suggested Salam’s recent stance was inconsistent.

The comments reflect widespread public support for Hezbollah amid ongoing protests, with Raad warning political leaders would be held accountable for reckless decisions. Hezbollah itself declared it would disregard any state decisions aimed at disarming the group.
