Syrian Nation Should Decide Their Fate: Iran

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Jaberi Ansari

Iran believes Syrian people are the only legitimate source to decide the fate of their country

Alwaght- Iran believes Syrian people are the only legitimate source to decide the fate of their country, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister said on Monday.

Speaking to the country’s state television, Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Jaberi Ansari also said the insistence of some countries on a military solution has blocked any peace process in Syria.

“The crisis in Syria has been going on for over five years, one of the reasons behind the sluggish peace process is that some countries believe that it has a military solution,” he said.

Referring to the numerous countries intervening in Syria, he said the mere variety of players is another reason Damascus has been trapped in violence for more than five years.

“Iran has, since the beginning, believed that a military solution will reach nowhere and that there is no path but that chosen by the people of Syria,” he said.

Iranian diplomat also condemned the US attack on Syrian army positions that killed 80 soldiers and rejected the US claim that it was a mistake attack as “unacceptable”.

US led coalition warplanes attacked a Syrian army position in Deir Ezzor killing tens of soldiers and paving the way for ISIS terrorists in the region to take control of the strategic position.

Damascus has been fighting foreign backed terrorist and militant groups since March 2011.
