Multiple Mosques in London Threatened by Right Wing Terrorists

Multiple Mosques in London Threatened by Right Wing Terrorists

Alwaght-Mosques and Islamic institutions in London have come under terror threat from right wing terrorists as incidents of Islamophobia increase across the country.

Multiple mosques all over London have received letters containing white powder and racist abuse sparking an investigation by counter terrorism officers.

The suspicious notes were sent on Thursday to mosques in Tottenham, Leyton and Finsbury Park.

The note sent to both Lord Ahmed and Masjid Ayesha in Tottenham both contained the words "Paki filth". One letter also showed a hand-drawn mosque which had been crossed out.

A similar delivery of white powder and slurs were sent to Noor Ul Islam mosque in Leyton and the Muslim welfare house in Seven Sisters Road, Finsbury Park, according to an Evening Standard report.

Walthamstow MP Stella Creasy sent a message condemning the delivery. She wrote on Twitter: "Whoever sent E10's noor Ul Islam suspicious package know I will press the police for the strongest penalties possible when you are caught."

The mosques were closed as officials dressed in hazard suits and special breathing equipment investigated the suspicious substance.

Specialist officers in hazard suits were called to the mosques, which were temporarily closed down and evacuated.

British Muslims are suffering an upsurge of Islamophobia with many women now afraid to conduct their daily lives, according to a new report which also warns of heightened racism following the vote on Brexit.

The annual survey by the anti-Muslim hate monitoring group Tell MAMA found a 326 per cent rise in incidents last year, while the Muslim Council of Britain group of mosques said it had compiled a dossier of 100 hate crimes during the first weekend alone after Brexit.

Dr Shuja Shafi, secretary general of the Muslim Council of Britain, said: “As the results of the referendum became known, I called for our politicians to come together and heal the divisions that have emerged as a result of the campaign. Now we are witnessing the shocking extent of this with reports around the country of hate speech and minorities being targeted.

“Our country is experiencing a political crisis which, I fear threatens the social peace.”

Right-wing terrorism has been growing in Britain and is motivated by a variety of far right ideologies and beliefs, including Islamophobia. This type of terrorism perpetrated by white supremacists has received little or no international attention yet Muslims continue to be victims.
