Alwaght- An explosives-laden fuel truck blast left at least 35 people dead and scores of others injured on south of Baghdad on Sunday while it was in line of a security checkpoint.
Among the dead were 24 civilians, while the rest were members of the security forces. The attacker struck shortly after noon when the checkpoint at one of the entrances to the city of Hillah was crowded with dozens of cars, according to a police officer quoted in Iraq's Arabic news channel al-Sumaria.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the acts of violence. However, Iraqi officials usually blame such attacks on the ISIS Takfiri terrorist group.
The huge truck explosion took place while in a similar incident last week, a twin suicide bombing in Baghdad’s district of Sadr City 78 people were killed and more than 100 others were wounded. ISIS terrorist group claimed responsibility for the attack.
The northern and western parts of Iraq have been plagued by violence ever since ISIS terrorists began their march through the Iraqi territory in June 2014.
