Iran Urges Myanmar to Stop Persecuting Muslims

Alwaght- Iran has urged the Myanmar government to stop the persecution and violation of the rights of Rohingya Muslim community in the country.

In a statement on Monday, Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi expressed concern over the plight of Rohingya Muslims who are facing a brutal military crackdown. He urged the government in Myanmar to halt the continued violation of human rights of Muslims and end the present inhuman and violent situation in the country.

The senior Iranian diplomat called on Myanmar to adopt a realistic approach towards establishing peace and a peaceful coexistence with the Rohingya.

“The government of the Islamic Republic of Iran is extremely worried by the continued violation of the rights of Muslims in Myanmar, which has led to their deaths and forced immigration," Qassemi said.

Rohingya Muslim community leaders say 8,000 to 9,000 Rohingya have entered Bangladesh since a fresh wave of violence broke out in Rakhine last Thursday.

Over 100 Muslims have been killed in the fresh bout of violence involving Myanmar’s military and the armed group.

According to Arkan News Agency, after midnight last Thursday, army and border guards raided the villages of Rohingya Muslims who responded by defended themselves

Turkey’s  President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has also urged the international community to increase its efforts to helping Myanmar's Muslim Rohingya community.

Egypt’s Al Azhar University has also strongly condemned the brutal and inhumane acts committed against the Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar, violating the teachings of all religions.

Al-Azhar appealed in a statement on Sunday to the international community to put an end to these heinous practices and stressed the need to stop bloodshed in Myanmar for the benefit of world peace.

Rakhine State in west Myanmar has seen the most serious violence perpetrated against Muslims in predominantly Buddhist Myanmar. Reports indicate that thousands of Rohingya Muslims were killed and hundreds of thousands have been displaced there in attacks by regime forces and extremists Buddhists since in 2012 in a deliberate state-backed policy of ethnic cleansing and genocide.
