ALWAGHT- With tensions mounting along the Golan Heights border, Israeli troops entered southwestern Quneitra province in Syria and established temporary checkpoints, marking another violation of Syrian sovereignty.
Israeli forces carried out multiple ground incursions in Syria’s Quneitra province over Friday and Saturday, raiding villages including Ain Ziwan, al-Ajraf, Bir Ajam, al-Asha, Umm al-Azam, and Ruweihina, and establishing temporary checkpoints. These operations involved military vehicles and were aimed at searching passersby and controlling strategic areas.
The raids followed protests in al-Salam, where Syrians condemned ongoing Israeli attacks on civilians and property. Reports indicate that Israel has intensified its incursions and patrols in southwestern Syria, extending its presence beyond the buffer zone dividing the occupied Golan Heights from the rest of the country.
Analysts suggest that Israel’s continued aggression is encouraged by Syria’s inaction and potential normalization moves with Tel Aviv. Israeli forces, under orders from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, have sought to capture key strategic positions, further violating the 1974 disengagement agreement and escalating tensions in the region.
