Oil Tanker Confiscated by IRGC Navy Near Southern Makran Coast for Violations

ALWAGHT- Following a judicial ruling, Iran’s IRGC Navy intercepted and took control of an oil tanker off the southern Makran coast.

The IRGC Navy announced that its rapid reaction units began monitoring the Marshall Islands-flagged tanker Talara on Friday morning after a court ordered the seizure of its cargo. The tanker, carrying 30,000 tons of petrochemical materials en route to Singapore, was guided to anchorage for an investigation into alleged violations.

According to the IRGC, the operation was conducted in line with legal duties to protect Iran’s national interests and resources. The tanker, its cargo, and documents were fully inspected, and the vessel was found to be carrying unauthorized cargo. US officials confirmed the Talara had been traveling from Ajman, UAE, to Singapore when it was intercepted, while the UK Maritime Trade Operations center noted it had entered Iranian territorial waters.

The seizure follows a pattern of similar actions by the IRGC in recent years, including the detention of two Greek tankers in 2022 and the Portuguese-flagged cargo ship MSC Aries in April 2024, all for violations of Iranian regulations.
