ALWAGHT- Iran’s Foreign Ministry has called back its ambassadors from three European states for consultations after the E3 activated the snapback mechanism against the Islamic Republic.
Iran has recalled its ambassadors from Germany, France, and the UK after the three European states triggered the JCPOA’s “snapback” mechanism to restore UN sanctions. Tehran denounced the move as an abuse of the dispute resolution process and a reversal of commitments under the 2015 nuclear deal.
The decision followed a UN vote in which the US, UK, France, and several other countries blocked a Russian-Chinese proposal to delay sanctions on Tehran. As a result, the snapback mechanism remains active, with sanctions set to be reimposed this weekend, formally ending the JCPOA framework.
Tehran has criticized Western non-compliance since Washington’s 2018 withdrawal from the deal but has not shut the door on diplomacy. Despite recent attacks on its nuclear facilities, Iran signed a framework agreement with the IAEA earlier this month to restore cooperation, framing it as a goodwill gesture.
