Alwaght- Judge Khalifa Al-Dhahrani presided the fourth session of a trial for the top Bahraini opposition leader and adjourned the trial until 24 October 2016, Bahrain Mirror news site reported.
Bahrain has charged the top opposition leader, Sheikh Isa Qassim, with collecting illegal funds and money laundering. The charges are a misinterpretation of a Shiite ritual called Khoms based on which followers donated part of their assets to their religious leader for charity purposes.
None of defendants attended the session and only a state appointed lawyer was present on their behalf.
Sheikh Isa Qassim was a founding member of the country's Constitution but the ruling monarchy revoked his Bahraini citizenship after the peaceful pro-democracy demonstrations in the country.
Demonstrations against the ruling monarchy in Bahrain began in 2011 but were faced with a violent crackdown even leading to a Saudi led intervention on Manama demand to stop the protests
