Alwaght-North Korea said it would cancel any future nuclear test, if the US agrees to suspend joint military drills with South Korea, as Press TV reports.
The United States has no interest in resolving tensions with North Korea, because it seeks to heighten tensions between the South and the North, says an American political commentator.
The US wants to “Maintain tensions in East Asia,” Professor Dennis Etler, told Press TV on Sunday.
“By maintaining tensions between itself and the North and between the North and the South, basically, it seeks to put pressure not only on the North but on China, as well,” he noted.
Etler made the remarks over an initiative made by Pyongyang to cancel any future nuclear test, if Washington agrees to suspend joint military drills with Seoul.
“In regards to the North Korean initiative to suspend its nuclear testing so long as the US suspends its joint military exercises with the South, it seems as if the US never wants to take North Korea at its word,” said Etler.
He believes that the “Problem is that the US itself has not been an honest broker.”
Pyongyang made the proposal, as tensions are high over the so-called cyber-attack on Sony Pictures Entertainment on November 24.
In December, the FBI announced that it had enough information to conclude that North Korea was responsible for the attacks. North Korea; however, denies any involvement in the hacking.
“The US has no interest in resolving the tensions on the Korean Peninsula,” Etler said. “On the contrary, it wishes to exacerbate tensions which are not only in East Asia, but in South East Asia, the West Asia, Latin America, and wherever else the US is trying to maintain or project its power.”
